This project aimed to improve pavement conditions, ADA ramps, and public safety in downtown T or C. The road diet was recommended in the 2021 Multimodal Transportation Safety Plan, to address key concerns including speeding and wrong-way driving in the downtown corridor. By changing the roadway striping configuration, visual friction was increased, and as a result, vehicle speeds reduced.

This upcoming safety initiative will modify the roadway striping to mitigate municipal safety concerns about fire truck access while still addressing the key concerns identified in the safety plan. The road diet enhancement project does specifically target traffic calming and driver guiding to enhance safety for all roadway users.
