In June 2023, the NMDOT, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, completed a study for the NM 68 corridor in Española between US 84/285 and just north of the Po'Pay Ave intersection. The corridor was divided into three phases for design development and construction. The Phase 1 (CN 5101461) project area begins at the intersection of NM 68 and US 84/285 and ends just north of Fairview Lane. Some of the proposed improvements for NM 68 include full roadway reconstruction, the addition of bike lanes, sidewalks, and multi-use trails, various intersection and drainage improvements, and street lighting.
